Shelter Project - sneak peek

I wanted to share a sneak peek of a kitchen revamp I am working on. So far I've had the floors white washed and a beautiful hexagon design painted.
Color used for hex design: Clark+Kensington's: Garden Stone N-C10.
The painting was done by a good friend, artist and fellow design blogger Danika from Gorgeous Shiny Things. She did a fab job. Next up?? I am having the cabinets sprayed white, a built in bench made, new lighting and existing chairs sprayed in navy blue. I'll be sure to share the before (see below image for before) and after with you all!  Eventually my client would like to add a back splash and a new counter top. Shelter is also finishing off this long term client's family room design.
these images don't include the finish coat over the top. I chose to use a satin finish.
Here is the "before" floor. It was a dated, country look.

And some more painted floor ideas I'm loving......

Cottage Love #16

My goal at Shelter (my blog) is to inspire and get my readers thinking! I aim to do this by sharing ideas for your home, life, and personal style. I'm always thrilled when I come across a home that appears to be accessible, hence today's post. Emily A. Clark is a blogger and mother of five. I'm sharing her adorable home. It is filled with ideas that you can easily accomplish on your own with a bit of imagination and elbow grease. Images via Emily's site and Style Me Pretty.

Side note: My own home design is coming along.....I hope to get lots done this Fall and have it photographed for a reveal this winter! The last image is a peek of my fireplace. I applied one coat of primer to the bricks and plan to apply two coats of a warm white color this week. I can't believe how much the white paint has already brightened up the room!

I think this little bathroom is my favorite aspect of her home.

And a small peek at my mantel, I'm adding a piece of art above the mantel.

Colors used:

Brick: Don't Touch My Tutu - an amazing white
Walls: Smokey Eyes N-C22

Saturday musings...

Wow, busy week!! I'm here to touch base and say hello! I'll be back next week, promise.

I wanted to share this creative way to devise a "color" field in your home. First, frame out a painted area of wall (in this case, it's the Tiffany blue). Second, define the area with either a frame or another paint color. (as pictured) Finally, use a neutral color everyplace else on the wall. This creative idea works well behind a bed or on a wall you'd like to feature. In this case Albert Hadley, did so in a foyer!

Enjoy this gorgeous day!

Cottage Love #15 - Beach Chic!

I've long admired designer David Netto's aesthetic, with Fall in full swing I'm really turning my thoughts and time inward, both literally and figuratively. I'm focusing on my home and have a goal to finish the entire interior before Christmas!! Fingers crossed!

This David Netto designed water front home is perfection! I love the use of wood and paint. Paint is a wonderful way to transform your home, even on a smaller budget. Here, David has done so masterfully with his color choices and strategies.  The painted floors, ceilings and interior of the bookshelves look divine. I also love the use of whitewashed/bleached flooring. I actually have a floor being re-done as we speak for a client right this week! We are having the floors sanded and white washed. I also have a decorative painter coming in to paint an octagonal pattern over an area! I'm so excited to see the outcome!! Eek!
These blue floors are fabulous!!

Love the look

I'm back, I'm back! I was away last week with Ace Hardware at a trade show. It was a successful week but it was a busy one. I'm happy to be blogging again today!!

I think Fall dressing is one of my favorites. The mix of warm and cool weather allows you to add and layer your array pieces. I came across the above photo last week when searching Pinterest while at the airport. I love the look of high + low, chic + casual. This is basically how I dress on a daily basis. (when I'm not wearing yoga pants).  Those Chanel Espadrille high tops are amazing but are now only available on ebay!! So I subbed them out for one of Fall's hottest trends - the converse high tops. (they have been all the rage in Europe for a couple of years now)

Shelter Loves..

I thought I'd start off the week with some of my recent favorites!  It's starting to feel like Fall around here for sure!!

1. This ring is fit for a princess or queen ;). Order it here.
2.  I live in little booties from Fall-Spring. When I'm running around for work, a lower heel just makes more sense. I love wearing grey because I can mix it with virtually any color. - Joie Bootie here.
3. 'Tis the season of cozy sweaters, leather pants, and plaid! (which is very hot this fall btw!!)
4.  Amen
5. I'm loving the tortoise mirrors and these chairs! (via Domino)

Cheers to a happy, healthy week!!! Anything will be better than last week I think!!

KITCHEN TALK.....

I'm not going to lie. I'm so happy it is Thursday. This has been a challenging week on so many levels. I'm blaming the Harvest Moon and the kids back to school transitional time. (among a few other things). I'll share my love list tomorrow but as I was searching for product for a client today I came across this beautiful kitchen. via

Cottage Love #17

Ever since I came across Chloe Warner's work about 6-7 years ago I have been a fan. She worked with Kelly Wearstler (another risk taker) before striking out on her own. I think the reason why I enjoy her designs so much is that they aren't overly formulaic looking. Chloe's spaces flow seamlessly and look as if they have evolved over time.

These images are of her own home she shares with her husband and two children.
